PREVALENCE OF MALARIA IN PREGNANCY AT LITE DISTRICT HEALTH SERVICE ON JANUARY 2009 UNTIL JUNE 2009 March 25, 2010

Malaria was one of social health problems in Indonesia, which cause death at population at risks : baby, and pregnant women. Lite District Health Service which located in Flores Timur Regency, NTT Province fight against malaria too. But because of minimum employee and utilities, the diagnostic made by Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) and sometimes by clinical sign. From all of those reasons, especially in pregnant women, have done one research to know the prevalence of malaria in pregnancy in Lite District Health Service area on January 2009 until June 2009 period. It was an important research, in order to ensure that health prevention and preventive will execute properly. This research used descriptive method. All of diagnostic in this research based on clinical symptoms and RDT examination.

The research was done based on pregnant woman data that came to the Lite Health District Service and also direct examination done by investigator. Then, from the data, the investigator find out data of pregnant woman with malaria, include the result of physical examination, therapy, and the prognosis of the disease.

The prevalence of malaria in pregnancy in the area of Lite Health District Service on January 2009 until June 2009 are 3,2%. Sixty percent was primigravida, 100% was shown febrile symptom, cheat, and sweating. Only 20% the diagnostic made by RDT examination. 80% cases was therapy by chloroquine and 20% referred to complete Health Service. From prognosis criteria, 80% delivered vigorous baby and mother condition was good, and 20% of delivered baby was dead. But it wasn’t cause by malaria.

From those reasons, the investigator suggest to the head of District Health Service and also to the Regency Government to extend preventive and promotion program, and also extend the employee of the District Health Service and the utilities.
